Behold Michael's new shirt!
Michael admitted today that he feared this shirt would look too much like a novelty garment:
"I expected I'd only be able to wear it to a crossword puzzle tournament, but this shirt I could wear anywhere."
Well I'm glad to hear that -- and don't think I'm not going to hold him to it. I think it looks great on him, especially now that he wears black eyeglass frames. Kind of a "geek chic" vibe, no?
I've seen a lot of crossword-inspired fabrics and I must say this one,
which I purchased at The City Quilter, is the nicest of the bunch. As
you can see, it has answers penciled in, but no numbers. It's from the company Timeless Treasures Fabrics of Soho and was designed by
Gail Cadden (in a collection called, coincidentally, "Geek Chic." Great minds and all that...).
I lined the inside yoke, collar stand, cuffs, and button plackets with
black cotton shirting for contrast. I think it makes the shirt look
more elegant.
I've made Michael two shirts this month; I think that's plenty. Time to get back to
my wardrobe needs!
Have a great day, everybody!
That turned out beautifully! Elegant and a sure conversation starter.
ReplyDeleteWow! Michael's right. He can wear the shirt everywhere. And I like the dark frames. I think that Michael is the first person I've seen who actually looks good in the black frames.
ReplyDelete***LOVE*** It's beautiful, looks like a shirt I could wear! Good job.
ReplyDeleteAmazing shirt … and the contrasting black accents really do make it look like a designer garment. You shirts are aways so inspiring (but always make my bloke nag me to make him more!)
ReplyDeleteWish someone made me such elegant, fun, clothes. This shirt is lovely and goes beautifully with the glasses. You make such a stylish couple.
ReplyDeleteI love this shirt and it looks great on michael!
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous! Very geek chic!

That shirts looks great! Well done with the puzzle matching. ~Teri
ReplyDeleteMichael looks so cool! Terrific shirt, Peter.
ReplyDeleteCool shirt - looks GREAT on Michael. I agree about the black accents. It totally "ups" the shirt.
ReplyDeleteI love it. From far away it kind of looks like a qrcode shirt, not a bad thing. It would be interesting to see it transform as you get closer.
ReplyDeleteMichael rocks the geek chic look very well. And your black undercollar and cuffs are a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI love Michael's new glasses! And I too thought the shirt would have a novelty vibe - but it doesn't at all! How interesting. It looks great but I never would have used it for fear that it would look to kitschy.
ReplyDeleteThere is such a thing as a crossword tournament?! I'm glad I never knew about those. It is elegant. I like your personal touches with the black fabric. It looks great on Michael. You are a great shirt maker. Not an easy sewing task.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THE SHIRT!!!!!!!! It turned out really well. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great shirt for Michael, it's a great look with his eyeglasses! The black lining is a beautiful detail.
ReplyDeleteYep, absolutely looks great. Really smart. Once again you've surprised me! I do like the glasses too.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, the fabric you got looks more balanced than the other crossword prints, and the solid black accents set off the print nicely. Beautiful shirt Peter!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I agree with thegarmentfarmer. The print is :::exactly::: the right size and the solid black adds a polished look to the shirt. Looks great on Michael! Excellent job!
ReplyDeletePerfect!
ReplyDeleteHe can completely wear that under a sports jacket or with a cool contrast bow tie. And open over a tshirt with shorts. Really similar to any black and white graphic print. My son has a B/W graphic print shirt, but it has colored contrast top stitching and buttonholes (pink).
ReplyDeleteIt looks great and will be fun to wear, but I recommend he not wear it out on Sunday as some crazed New York Times puzzle nut will come after him with a pen.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful shirt!! Michael looks model chic. Is that your professors's pattern? You never cease to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteAnother success in the MPB dossier
Well worth the reveal wait! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I really like this! It looks great! Michael looks super cute in the new specs, too! They really suit him!
ReplyDeleteSnazzy! Love it!
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job on the shirt, love the black contrast. That fabric is too much fun, love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat shirt and it looks great on Michael, but what is he doing in that last picture next to the Rolls?
ReplyDeleteTrying to get a close-up with the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament!
DeleteI absolutely love the shirt. Inspired by your previously post -- I ordered some cartoon fabric (black and white online) and it was a complete order fail -- the cartoons are gigantic. But I love the crossword shirt -and Wow! Those glasses are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteLove the whole look! The Rolls Royce of shirts.
ReplyDeleteMichael's shirt looks expensive, and the glasses look perfect with it. Now we just need the high tops...
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous on Michael. I like it with his glasses.
ReplyDeleteThat's love
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
that print doesn't read as busy as I thought it would. I really like it. great job!!
ReplyDeleteexcellent shirt, really suits him and very wearable, well done
ReplyDeleteMichael looks utterly charming. The shirt is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove the black detail and the glasses!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I was wondering about the back yoke, I know I would have found that match really difficult and probably cut it on the bias. The black contrast makes it look really professional - a great touch.
ReplyDeleteGreat shirt and Michael looks very handsome! Both of you are so photogenic ;-)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the shirt! Love the black accents. "Geek chic" is the most perfect term. Michael owns this look. Fantastic all around!!
ReplyDeletethat's two more shirts than i've made ruggy all year.
ReplyDeletethat shirt is cool defined. it looks like a digitized print from afar. lookin GOOOOOD, michael!
Really really cool. Not easy to do either. New reader. I think you are magnificent!
ReplyDeleteFun! I think from afar, it probably doesn't even read as crossword.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! And from a distance, it looks more like abstract pixelated art.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT! Michael looks very handsome in it!!
ReplyDeleteWhere can I get one???
ReplyDeletelooks very good on him! plus it's classy and fun(ny), my favourite combination :)
ReplyDeleteMy words exactly.
