Oh, the Glamour! The Pattern Review Anniversary Party!

Me and Eugenia of Elliott Berman Textiles

As promised, readers, here are some photos from last night's star-studded, super-fun Pattern Review NYC anniversary bash at Elliott Berman.  I met so many interesting people, the food was delicious, and I even won fabric!

"Clio", Maria, Robin, Mimi, and Cindy

Our hosts, Matthew and Eugenia of Elliott Berman Textiles, could not have been more welcoming.  And -- get this -- there were like six men there!

Men!

MPB reader-hunk Mark

In the first of the evening's many competitions, "Name That Swatch," volunteers were blindfolded and asked to guess what fabric they were touching.  I won the first round with my answer, silk.

Playing "Name That Swatch"

("Corduroy...no, silk...maybe rayon...denim...Kleenex?")

My prize was a huge piece of a beautiful muted green Valentino viscose/silk blend.   I think this may end up being a shirt for Michael me!

I also won a robin's egg blue silk gazar scarf by answering a trivia question relating to a designer who had once been a member of the Italian Communist Party.  (Answer: Miuccia Prada -- too easy.)

Along with booze and assorted snacks, there was a fabulous carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.  Unfortunately, this meant I had to go home and have reverse-dinner (where you eat the dessert before your meal), which always feels icky.

I got to meet some of my favorite bloggers and many wonderful sew-people, including Mimi of Shop the Garment District, designer/costumer/instructor Cindy Chock,  Kelli of True Bias, Maria, Robin, Leu, and so many others.

One highlight was getting to see Clio's sumptuous black leather Burdastyle jacket in the flesh.  Stunning.

Chic "Clio"

Perhaps the very best part, upon reflection, is that despite harsh lighting not seen since the early days of Technicolor film sets, we all looked pretty darn glamorous!

Spooky synchronicity: matching diagonals!

Needless to say, my color block shirt was a popular topic of discussion (especially since I raised it endlessly), and I am hoping it earns me deep discounts at Elliott Berman for years to come.

All told, a wonderful way to spend a Wednesday evening.

Have a great day, everybody!

  3. Peter,
Thanks for sharing with those of us living away from the hub of fashion. It looks like it was a great time.

  4. Awww, so great to see these pictures! I'm a long time member of PR and have never been able to attend any of their events. *sigh* Maybe one day I'll get to visit NYC and buy fabric and attend a PR event, or better still, and MPB event. LOVE the shirt!! Thanks for sharing!

  5. What a lovely looking group of people? Pardon my ignorance. Is that the same Pattern Review that is online? I think I checked it out about 3 years ago and it was great.

  8. And somehow that shirt finds it way onto tthe blog once again! Looks like you had a great time. I seriously need to marry an American so I can come live there and go to these functions. I don't even have a real fabric store where I live!

  10. Fun! But you know that green is for an autumn (ahem, Michael)! Willie must be an autumn too because it looks pretty nice next to him.

Speaking of your other half ... here's a nudge for a guest post by him to catch us all up on what he's been doing since he abandoned his own blog. We miss him!!
