Peanuts Pandemic Photo Shoot!

Friends, I know I should be wearing a matching home-sewn mask but this scarf will have to do for the time being.

I finished my Peanuts shirt a few days ago and today Michael and I went outside for a brief photo shoot, maintaining our social distance (not from each other, naturally, but from others).  I took that scarf off because aren't you tired of seeing photos of people with their faces covered at this point?

There's not a whole lot to say about this shirt you don't already know.  I bought the fabric online, it's a design called "The Gangs All Here Toss" by Springs Creative (from 2019, so it's pretty easy to find).  The shirt pattern I used was Butterick 4575, from the mid-Seventies, size 36, my usual size. The only major alteration I made was to narrow the collar to give it a more contemporary look.

My polka dot contrast fabric is also quilting cotton, also purchased on eBay.  It looked black before I laundered it but it washed to a very dark brown.  That's fine too.

I used vintage French glass shirt buttons I purchased a few years ago at the Chelsea Flea Market.  I believe they're from the 1920's.  They don't stand out but how could they against this very busy fabric?  As always, I made my buttonholes with my vintage Singer buttonhole attachment and sewed the entire shirt on my Singer 15-91.

I'm not entirely sure what my next project will be but I'll tell you as soon as I know.  In the meantime I'm happy to have a new cheerful shirt to wear in these somewhat gloomy times (and on this rather gray day).  I've said it before but I'll say it again: I love this Peanuts-print fabric.

Have a great day and stay healthy.

Happy Sewing!

  1. That shirt is great. I seriously love the print too. Shame it's not so easy to get in the uk.

  4. What interfacing do you prefer for your collar? Do you use the same on stand and collar itself? Do you interface inner and outer pieces?

    1. I generally interface the inward-facing collar stand and outward-facing collar only, and I use the same interfacing for both. My preference is a lightweight woven poly. I don't like my collars excessively stiff.

    2. Oh thank you , thank you , thank you... Just getting ready to cut out a shirt (stash busting) and was mulling the collar cuffs and collar stand interfacing... now thinking about lining the cuffs and insire collar stand with a bit of contrasting fabric thanks to your inspo too!!

  6. I love that shirt! Peanuts are my favorites. It goes along with listening to 70s soft rock for me right now. It makes me feel calm during this anxiety producing crazy time. Sewing is also a refuge for sure. Happy sewing. Stay safe and thanks for the post!

  8. You are right, that color is good for you. I love the fabric but as I am not talented at shirt making I will use something I have when I get brave enough to try sewing clothing again.
I see that someone else asked about the interfacing you use. I am curious about that also.

    1. Generally I used a lightweight poly woven interfacing. This one I purchased at Pacific Trim. The result isn't cardboard stiff but still a little more starched feeling.

  9. Terrific color, terrific make, terrific post. I might need a Peanuts toss dress. I was Lucy in 'You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown' in high school.

  15. Great colour and well made.
You should wear it to a conference and say "Comment from the peanut gallery..."
