Holiday Updates + Dogs vs. Cats: MPB VIDEO Exclusive!

This has been a wonderful holiday for me and my family, with a lot to be grateful for.

I am happy to report that my Mom is doing very well.  She's in her last week of partial weight bearing on her injured leg; after the 31st she can switch from a walker to a cane.  (Her surgeon has called her recovery "remarkable.")   She has been staying with my brother and SIL since her discharge from the hospital nearly three weeks ago.  I see her most days and encourage her to do as much walking as she can.  Her mental state has improved a lot too: she's back to reading the newspaper and talking to friends occasionally, and generally has a sunnier outlook.

Michael and I spent Christmas with his family in Pennsylvania.  We drove down to his Dad's and had dinner at a restaurant nearby.  On Christmas morning, Michael's sister Beth prepared brunch for all of us.

A true pet lover, Beth had holiday presents for Freddy and Willy, as well as for Michael's Dad's cat, Herbie.

You can see their respective reactions in the video below.  (Those on portable devices can click here.)

In other news, Michael and I saw a fantastic Broadway musical last weekend, The Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder.  If you know the British film Kind Hearts & Coronets, you know the plot.  The show was marvelously performed, witty and fun -- I highly recommend it.

Finally, Michael tried on my plaid wool shacket and has decided he wants one of his very own.  Methinks it's time to get back to work!

Have a great day, everybody, and happy holidays!

  15. It's so great to see your mom looking like her former self. She's a champ! As for the shacket, I swear you've got the whole sewing universe wanting one. I remember having a navy blue CPO jacket in Jr. High (I won't say how LONG ago that was), and that it was the cool thing to have. Suddenly I have the urge to be cool again.

  19. So nice to see everyone's smiling faces ... well, except for the voices in the videos without faces. Hah. Happy Holidays to you, Michael, the pups, extended families, and even Herbie the non-performer. :-)

  21. Fine cat-the tail twitching and crouching under the chair and near biting all say "I'm in my box and I'm ready to have a temper meltdown." Though I am surprised the person (male) who took Herbie's mouse present did not get a similar "teeth display" as your sister-in-law did.

Your mother must be thrilled at the last of snow so she's not missing the white stuff during her December spring outings. Not sure if her gloves have palm and finger grips to help her hold her mobile aid. Does she have a pair of leather gloves or suede-like lined gloves? Knit gloves don't "grab" surfaces well esp. door handles at stores or banks. She may notice a difference!

    Merry Day three of Christmas!

Herbie's reaction was quintessential cat :)

  25. Peter, thanks for letting us have a glimpse of your life beyond the needle. The smiles in your pictures say it all. So, may you and everyone at MPB (mother, Michael, family, commenters here at the blog, pets, alter egos) have a wonderful 2015.

P.S. Dogs are infinitely superior to cats. Just sayin'.

  36. So glad to hear your mom is feeling better! That picture of the two of you is wonderful!

Ah, cats. A wagging tale on a dog means happy dog, a wagging tail on a cat means . . . bad things are coming. At least Freddy and Willy can enjoy their presents. (Tino’s favorite part of a toy is always the tag, the little goof.)

Happy New Year to all the boys at Chez Lappin!
