Cathy Models the 1944 Topper!

Friends, with the 1944 Outfit Project completed, Cathy and I took advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday to undertake our photo shoot, complete with Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade floats!

Cathy breaks new ground yet again, this time with a new hair color, coiffure, and love interest!  I hope you'll find all three to your liking.  As with any fashion icon, the public can be reluctant to accept changes, yet change we must to keep up with the times.  Or in this case, to recreate the past.

With no further delay, I present our photo shoot.

As always, to see these photos full-size, please click on any image and in Picasa, choose the album name, and then, in the upper left hand corner, "Slideshow."

Of course we want to hear what you think of Cathy's glamorous new look.

Move over, Lana Turner?

Enjoy!

  1. Fabulous outfit and great photoshoot as usual.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Michael!!

  2. Good job! It's the details that make the outfit: the brown jumper, peep toe shoes, and muff are just perfect to go with that coat. Ya, be a blonde!

  3. Hm... I think she looks better as a brunette! ;) Great outfit and lovely coat, Peter!

  4. Great photo shoot accompanied by a love story...perfect :)! Who could ask for more?

  5. Peter, I like how you incorporated the original blanket hem for the hems on the coat. Nice job, entertaining photo shoot. Gotta luv [SPOILER ALERT] a happy ending love story.

  6. My absolute favourite outfit so far!!! Cathy is a true 40's gal! I just love the lines on the coat and the pinafore is fantastic! I love Cathy as a blonde and the snood (with flowers) works perfectly! Fabulously fun photoshoot! YAY!

  7. This outfit is perfect for Cathy's figure-- no wonder she attracted a good looking man! And the blonde hair works well with the muted palette.

I wish I had legs like Cathy.

  8. I love that nice guy she meets! And I suspect I prefer "natural" Cathy, the brunette, but it's hard to tell with that snood thingy. Of course, a woman has the right to change her hair weekly, if that's what she likes. Or until it falls out.

  9. Love love love the coat. The whole outfit is great.

  10. The coat looks warm and cozy! As does the snood. Great fall colors for Cathy.

  11. Clap - Clap - Clap - Clap!

Aren't you afraid you lose Cathy to this Rocco guy. They really seem to have hit 'it'.....

  12. I too, prefer Cathy's natural brunette coloring; however, the change makes me wonder how auburn would work with her new outfit.

The coat is just perfect! She stands out from the crowd in the very best way possible. The snood and flower are great too.

Wonderful to see her out and about again.

I would advise her to be upfront about the stint in gaol with Rocco, if he is worthy of her he will understand. He has a very nice smile, I think he'll pass this hurdle.

  13. Ok I have to come out of lurkdom and say I so look forward to Cathy's fashion shoots! You sew so wonderfully and she certainly does justice to the clothes.
Bravo and I can hardly wait for the next one!

  14. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, from the flower hair piece down to the adorable wedge shoes. I love the combination of colors in the plaid and the coat. And it looks as though you and Cathy had a lovely day for a parade and a photoshoot.
    Great job!

  15. Love the outfit and the happy ending/beginning. But I think Cathy, like Elizabeth Taylor, owes it to her natural beauty to stay brunette.

  16. Cathy truly rocks those flowers

  18. I love it! (I so jealous that you have such great photo shoot locations. It brings back great memories of seeing the Macy's parade live in 1992.)

  19. Fabulous!!! I'm finding it difficult to believe that this is the man of Cathy's dreams...where is his fashion style? I cannot imagine that Cathy would fall in love with a man who isn't a slick dresser; after all she's a supermodel!

  20. Looks like Cathy is really stepping up the style - looking good! (Don't tell her, but I don't think that Rocco is "The One"....I could be wrong, but.....)

BTW, does Cathy have something against earrings? Her lobes look a bit nekkid to me....

    ReplyDelete
  21. Rocco? Oh puh-lease ... Cathy is far too sophisticated for that relationship to work long term.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lana better watch out for the new talent, and maybe Rocco too? The jacket? TO DIE for!

  23. Cathy can work the Forties, no problem. But I still prefer her Fifties look; she's just made for it. Some women just have an era - look at Jackie Onassis, the ultimate Sixties woman. When times changed, she wasn't as much an icon in Seventies and Eighties fashion; it just didn't suit her as well as Oleg Cassini channeling Givenchy had. And so it is with Miss Lane - the only Fifties girl who could give Cyd Charisse a run for her money.

About the new boyfriend - Rocco is not The One. Cathy must be toying with him, possibly gold-digging. Did the reformatory teach her NOTHING?

  24. I'd really like to see another photo shoot -- or if that's too much, just a photo -- of Cathy in this outfit with the cute short brunette wig instead of the snood, blond hair, and flowers. To me, the complicated hair treatment was a detraction, and I think the simpler 'do would be a better complement to the terrific style and fantastic sewing in all the clothing pieces. I especially love the topper.

  25. Lana who? Your story had romance, a parade, the masses, crazy old ladies and Buster! Although Rocco does look a little 'rough trade' for dignified Cathy...or do I have here all wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The coat is gorgeous! Leaving the blanket stitching = genius. It's been so much fun watching this look come together. I think Rocco's going to have to kick his style quotient up a few notches if he ever wants to keep Cathy around.

  27. Love the coat. The whole outfit really flatters Cathy's figure. Looks like Cathy is living up to the saying that "blondes have more fun". Though I think she is just playing with Rocco, as he is not sophisticated enough for a supermodel. Great photo shoot, your blog is always such a joy to read.

  28. So envious of Cathy's coat - it is absolutely fabulous. The colour, the cut, the shoulders... I would never have thought to use an old blanket for it; what a great idea. And I love how you kept some of the original, like the hem.

Cathy's best look yet. Move over Lana, Rita, and Joan!

  29. Absolutely lovely! I love the muted color palette that Cathy is sporting in this photo shoot! She looks divine as usual!

    Have a GREAT day!

  30. LOVE that topper. I would steal it if I could. I particularly like that Cathy matched it to cork-wedge white sandals, though, definitely an interesting choice for November!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I want that topper, too! The whole outfit was perfect for a Thanksgiving in NY. I always look forward to the photos!
    Happy Holidays!

  32. This was just the perfect outfit. Love the colors.
She was a sharp dressed girl, and a flirt too.
Your whole outfit was was was sewn with such detail.
I think both blonde and brunette would be just great.

  34. Hey Cathy,

I know Buster from his very own blog - "my life By Buster" and now here he is doing stand in jobs.

Very small world, however his toning is perfect for the outfit.

  35. Wow!! I adore Cathy's new look, she looks 10 years younger! Although, I think it's the new make-up bringing that dew-kissed glow to her cheeks, not the first flush of a new romance. Cathy needs a real man, a white knight, someone who will sweep her off her feet. Rocco is not that man.

Great job on the topper too. The front detailing and welted pockets are to die for!

  36. Glam indeed!
And where DID you find that gloriously charming pup ?
So funny, my chum GIRL+DOG in Australia (the wonderful guerilla knitter) alerted me to Buster's cross-blogging........
He usually appears in My Life by Buster (ewix2.blogspot.com)
    This is all such fun.
    Do get back to me.

  37. Love the coat. It's the perfect length. I lave ho you kept the blanket stitch binding at the cuff.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Cathy looks good as a blond! And the ensemble suits her very well!

But I don't know about this Rocco fellow. Is he good enough for her? Or is she settling?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've always liked blonds with dark eyebrows. But somehow there is an awful lot of forehead going on... how about a style with bangs?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I know I'm very late, but I just HAD to tell you how much I love the outfit -- especially the coat.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What a wonderful outfit. You wear it so well, Cathy! I knew that coat would be nothing less than beautiful. What a great selection of pics. Thank you so much for sharing. Hugely inspirational on lots of levels! :-)

  42. Fab outfit, I think this might be one of my favourites. Cathy looks slightly terrified in the romantic dip, surely a gal like that has been dipped many times before!!
    Well done Peter
