Readers, my mom, Sonia, is modeling once again and, yes, I did dress her up in oversized sunglasses and hat she would never have worn herself -- stylist's prerogative.
You can see the results of our photo shoot
here.
Thankfully, my mother is quite game and was happy to oblige. She loves her new top and I must say, it really flatters her. Why I don't sew for her more I'll never know -- and neither does she!
I wasn't able to get shots of her wearing the blouse as a jacket -- she's not about to change clothes on the street like I do -- but I do think it will serve double duty as both a top and a second layer.
The finished garmnet is much more formal-looking than I'd expected -- it's a casual fabric and the construction was very straightforward, nothing complicated. It's a bonus when something relatively simple comes out looking fancy, right?
I can definitely see making this up again, maybe in linen or even a cotton brocade. It's a good look for her and easy to wear. No need to wait for another birthday.
Have a great day, everybody!
Loved all the pics! Your mother looks so happy and her blouse is quite lovely. Great job!

ReplyDeletePiling on to the love fest: that is so handsome on your mom! Such a departure for you, and so well considered.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with her on the 3/4 sleeves. Partly for comfort and mostly for scale, they seem to work better with tunic shapes on we momshaped people.
What a good boy you are!
Love the blouse for Mom. This is made for fancy fabric. Now you can buy anything your Mom will allow and she gets to wear it!!! Can't wait to see this sparkle, in cashmere, in vinyl for a raincoat, on and on.

ReplyDeleteGreat idea to cut round the flowers at the bottom - it creates a really original garment. Hope you don't mind me going a bit off subject, but for any of your readers who have access to British TV, the new series of the Sewing Bee has just started - Monday nights BBC2 9pm British time. The first episode was last Monday and the standard looks very high!
