Laura Mae Comes Over to Play!

It isn't often I get to see my friend, Californian co-blogger Laura Mae, so when I heard she was coming East to visit family and would be in New York City for the day, I quickly arranged a play date!

The dogs were thrilled to see her again, especially Willy, who ranks Laura Mae's petting technique second to none.  Seriously, how many women dressed like Laura Mae would let a sheddy white dog sit on their lap for half an hour?

After lunch, Laura Mae and I hightailed it to the Fashion Institute of Technology museum, where we saw both the Global Fashion Capitals exhibit as well as the new Suzanne Bartsch Underground Fashion exhibit.  All I can say is Wow!

After the museum, we walked to the Garment District for some fantasy fabric shopping at Fabrics & Fabrics and B&J.  So much beauty!  We also popped into Beckenstein's to admire their superb selection of menswear fabrics.

Fuzzily captured in the harsh fluorescent lights of Fabrics & Fabrics.

Sumptuous cotton shirting at Beckenstein's.

Back home again, we had a light dinner with Michael and my Mom, talked sewing till twilight, and before we knew it, it was time to take Laura Mae back to the train station.

Hopefully, I won't have to wait another year to enjoy another play date with Laura Mae.  And maybe next time she'll bring her chihuahua, Tino!

Have a great day, everybody!

  4. So funny that your little dogs love visitors. Mine wants to bite all visitors. There are only 6 people he likes and he likes them very much. Laura has Tino of course so she is used to little shedding dogs and loves them.

    1. I have to laugh because you are so right about small dogs! They'll bite you quicker than a pitbull would!! I always steer out of chomping distance when I see one approaching on the street! LOL!!

    1. It's what inside that counts! a dress like that reminds me of Bette Davis in "All about Eve" during that famous party scene, alluring shoulders and her legendary walk......Ms. Davis wore that dress the way no one else could! LOL!! Skilled dressmaking is the magic key!!

    3. Elastic just below the top edge. It is a miracle of engineering and Laura's fitting skills. And perhaps just a dab of magical powers. Because I do believe she has them.
      Milk jokes? Gentlemen, beHAVE!

  7. Miss you lots! Thank you for babysitting me all day - by far the best day of the trip! And you tell Willy not to worry about the fur (its just a cotton summer dress, after all).

So glad I got to meet your mom. Thanks again for being such a fabulous tour guide!
