It's my birthday today and I'm celebrating it with a giveaway!
I've owned this reissue of the wonderful 1948 draping book,
Precision Draping, for years, but last week my friend Johanna gave me a second copy. I asked if she minded if I offered it as a giveaway and she didn't, so here we are!
Precision Draping is a very easy-to-understand book that would be perfect for anyone with a passion for Forties style and an interest in crafting your own patterns (or in making changes to the ones you already own). The concepts aren't difficult to grasp; anyone with a little draping experience -- or none -- will be able to figure them out. This slim softcover book is full of charming illustrations that will inspire any Forties fashionista/sewista!
Some images below:
This giveaway is open to everyone the world over. To enter, simply leave a short comment below before midnight (EST) this coming Sunday.
I'll be announcing the winner, chosen at random, on Monday morning, April 25th.
Ready to start draping?
Good luck, everybody!
This looks like the perfect asset for my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteLooks full of info even for those not interested in 40's style.
ReplyDeleteLove the vintage stuff so I would love this book! Love your blog and you're the reason how I got into collecting vintage sewing machines!
ReplyDeleteOh my! That book looks absolutely fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, friend Peter! Am so glad that 1940s fashion is seeing a return -- those wartime fabric restrictions led to some very clever variations on dress and blouse designs for females, at least!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I'm making my mum a forties style dress and this would really help!!

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Like you, I too have a "cousin" who loves vintage-style outfits! Now that she knows I'm learning to sew, she's becoming a bit annoying and impatient. Maybe this would help?

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Peter!
Don't enter me in the draw, though the book looks awesome, but I just wanted to delurk to say Happy Birthday! I hope you and Michael have something nice (well, something you like) planned.
ReplyDeleteDear Peter First Happy Birthday. Second, I don't know if it just me or my computer, but I'm having problems in your blog site with too many pop-ups. It is making maneuvering around the blog very difficult. Strange things keep popping up or it takes me to a new page of ads. Hopefully others are not having the problem. I might have to get another Pop-up blocker.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your time, I really enjoy your blog and have been reading it for years. Alan
Happy Birthday! What a great book, maybe making my own 40s patterns would cut down on my vintage pattern buying sprees :P Doubt it though ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you! Monday April 25th is my birthday. In fact, I turn 50 on Monday..boohoo. I think this would be a lovely birthday gift and help me to forget how old I am.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Here's to learning how to drape.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Thanks for the opportunity! I discovered your blog just a few weeks ago. Enjoying your posts about FIT a lot
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday. I watch your posts always and I am inspired to sew better by you. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! That looks like such a cool book, I love the silhouettes of that era but wouldn't have the foggiest where to start drafting them myself!
ReplyDeleteMany happy returns! Hope you had a great day :)
ReplyDeleteWon't lie, crossing my fingers for that book, it looks amazing! So nice of you to share!
That's stunning, like a whole book of vintage pattern covers! Happy birthday :-)
ReplyDeleteX
Happy birthday! It's my daughter's birthday too! (She's 14 and wants to celebrate by going to IHOP for dinner. LOL). So nice of you to give away presents for your birthday.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, and many more of 'em!
ReplyDeleteThis book would be the perfect kickstart to my new life, having moved away from everything I knew to a new home, with a man whose idea of housemoving was to say, "now right in front of the window here is the best place for your 1903 treadle Singer, isn't it?" and made sure I have all the space I need for all my sewing stuff, bless him!
Now I'm just struggling to bring my own haphazard sewing standards up, so this book would be ideal!
Happy birthday Peter! I wish you a lot of happiness, love, and anything else that you would like to accomplish this year.
DeleteWhat a lovely book.
Happy birthday Peter, and thank-you for sharing the joy. The draping book looks like lots of fun.

ReplyDeleteI never win Giveaways, so I never comment even when the present is such a great book. In the past I had some basic course about drapping, because was part of my grad. course but never tried
put it to praxis. I found complicated at that time, but this method looks quite simple!

ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful birthday. I love old books like this - they have amazing tips in them that often seem to be missing in more modern books. Plus when it boils down to it the basic techniques haven't changed much.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Love the book. You can't find information like this anymore. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Thank you for the opportunity!
