Friends, I am happy to report that I finished my cotton voile shirt over the weekend.
As you can see above (and below), the fabric is delicate and slightly sheer. It wasn't hard to work with, but I handled it very gently and used a fresh new needle in my Singer 201.
Here are some close-ups:
The completed collar, before attaching.
The collar, now attached.
Inside collar stand.
Flat-felled seams on the side panels.
Hidden button placket.
Me modeling the shirt. The fit is good though I might have done a small sloping shoulder adjustment. I like it a lot and I look forward to wearing it when the weather warms up.
And that's it -- onward and upward!
Have a great day, everybody!
Boy, that looks expensive.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shirt I love you fabric choice
ReplyDeleteI really like this - big thumbs up!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking shirt!
ReplyDeleteLove it. A round of applause for you.
ReplyDeleteSpud.
Beautiful!! I love voile and I enjoy sewing it. I only wish I could buy it as they never have it at the one and only fashion fabric store in our area.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work!! When I grow up I want my shirts to look that good! LOL
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shirt. Workmanship is splendid as always.
ReplyDeleteMichael, wonderful job. The back especially looks well-fitted.
ReplyDeleteLove it
ReplyDeleteThis fabric made a lovely shirt.
ReplyDeleteJust get your labels woven already!!!
ReplyDeletesuperb as always :-)
ReplyDeleteThat fabric is gorgeous for summer! Nice fit all over and the back just has a lovely shape!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shirt, really suits you
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful. I hope the weather on the east coast warms up enough to wear it, soon! Have you done a hidden placket tutorial? I'd love to see how you pull that off.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric, excellent craftsmanship. . . . Because you said you thought the shoulder slope slightly off, I went back and looked and looked and looked. To my eye, the left back shoulder panel **might** be a little full. Maybe a quarter inch taken out of the top? . . . And **maybe** a tiny amount taken out of the back waist, though shoulder and hip width look spot on. . . Only because you mentioned it did I look so closely. It's a fantastic shirt. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful looking and fitting shirt. I'll have to try Vogue 8889.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHow often do you change your sewing machine needles? I just bought new ones, but as long as they are still poking through, I keep the old ones in. If the projects all require the same needle, do you change once per 4 projects, 8 projects?
I have no special system. If the needle's still stitching well, I keep using it!
DeleteI love that fabric! And your fit is great - way to go!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully sewn, as always. What interfacing did you use?
ReplyDeleteThis fabric looks great for hot summer days. The fit is perfect!
ReplyDeleteOoh, this is beautiful! I love it!
ReplyDeleteIs there a shirt sew along in your immediate future? I remember you took a class, I believe at FIT, and learned a few things. Can you put together a step by step on efficiently making a mens collared shirt?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Check out my shirt sew-along posts and FIT class posts in the archives (in the right-hand column) -- the info is all there.
DeleteReally chic, Peter! How've you been?
