Shirt-free Friday + parrot video!


Friends, I think we all deserve a day without shirts -- I know I do. 

Pants are optional.

To break the monotony of flat-felled seams for those catching up, here's another parrot video.

What a talent that bird is!



Tomorrow we tackle new facings, collar and collar stand for the Negroni shirt.  And don't forget to post your muslin pics on Flickr.

    I hope that the parrot video goes viral; it's just that much fun. I loved the shirt-free photo as well, although I think you have too many clothes on.

    And my muslin is done, except for sewing on the buttons. I hung it up last night so that the Fray Block on the buttonholes could dry; buttons are happening later tonight. Guess that means I'm ready for the next step...

    Peter, you have missed your calling... you should be doing those shows (like Priscilla, Queen of the Desert). Think... you could make your own costumes and obviously you have some spare hair! You already have a following....Sofie

    Oh no you didn't! You're killing me, Peter. Really.

    Onto more serious matters. I have a placket question. (I should probably add that I don't have my hands on the Negroni pattern yet -- I'm hoping it'll make it's way to China in a couple days). This shirt has facings instead of a placket, right? I was thinking I'd use the placket from another pattern because I want to make a dressier shirt but in examining some of my husband's shirts I found several dress shirts without (what I think of) a traditional placket. But the material is folded under (which Wikipedia says is a French placket) so it's not a facing either. What to do? Will the facing from Negroni look like a French placket? Please tell me everything you know about plackets and facings.

    Shasta, the Negroni has no front plackets, only facings. Tomorrow I'm going to show you how to draft plackets, collar stands and collars for Negroni (and any shirt really). Tune in!
