Readers, Zack's shirt is finished!
Here's a closer look:
Zack tried it on yesterday evening and it looked great. Here are some pics of Zack in the shirt and apologies for the fluorescent lighting. We all loved the way it looked on him.
Now, I had roughly half a yard of the cotton paisley left and, badly needing some new underwear, I whipped up a pair of paisley boxers for myself this afternoon. That's not inappropriate is it? (he he)
These have bias trim along the hem and outer edges (made of the same paisley fabric).
Boxers are a great way to use up fabric remnants. I made a second pair using fabric left over from a short sleeve shirt I'd made last summer (below) -- it's one of my favorites.
I used the same pattern (
McCall's 3438, view E) for both. I hope to whip up a few more pairs of boxers later in the week.
In closing, friends, what do
you usually make with your fabric remnants?
Have a great day, everybody!
Spectacular shirt! And nice boxers, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd you were at the Lobster Pot. I'm jealous, as we've not been up there for the past couple of years...
Love their lobster rolls!
Deleteif i could make my own boxers, i'd be in heaven.
ReplyDeleteZack looks fantastic in that shirt! He looks wealthy.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shirt! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteWhat, no pics of you modeling the boxers? Just like a swimsuit! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI was taught from the very beginning that a good cutter cuts a suit for the customer and something for him/herself (a vest, a skirt, if lucky a pair of trousers) from the yardage the customer brought. ;)
ReplyDeleteNice pattern placement and matching!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shirt. The fabric is TDF. I love being able to use remnants... underwear (knits), camisoles and little sleeveless tops are my usual go-tos.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of fabric!
ReplyDeleteI make kids clothes of remnants.
Love the boxers and the gingham trim! Zack is a lucky guy to have you for not only sewing ability but color selection as well. His coloring works so well with the fabric and great fit!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shirt and fabric. Love the collar.
ReplyDeleteGreat paisley shirt and I *love* the gingham contrast on the boxers. Love love love it!
ReplyDeleteThat shirt, that man, and no random number generator give-away?!
ReplyDeleteHowever she spells her name, she is one lucky lady.
Oh my goodness, that is one beautiful shirt! You make me want to quit my job and sew!
ReplyDeleteAh, gingham bias trim! Best use of gingham!
ReplyDeleteInevitably, all boxers here are made from chosen materials, and THEIR leftovers go into pockets and trim bits and bound buttonhole facings.
The last scrap of Dora the Explorer fabric (originally for a beloved bucket hat) is in a pair of jeans: her tiny shoes on the little pocket make me smile.
How timely. Just this week I was planning to use shirting remnants to make boxers. I might take a stab at the Hermes-style boxers that have buttons and pleats instead of an elastic waistband.
ReplyDeleteElegant!
DeleteWow! That shirt is beautiful! Your print matching is impeccable! Lately I've been making baby clothes out of remnants, either dresses or little buttondowns. Lots of my friends have children now, so it's good to have some at the ready for gift giving! I need to start making some undies, though. That seems like a good way to use up the weird knit scraps that accumulate so quickly.
ReplyDeleteThe shirt is wonderful. Zack is a handsome man. Your boxers look great.
ReplyDeleteZack's shirt is absolutely gorgeous!!!
