Panel Print Shirt Collar + I'M DONE!

The big job today was making a collar for my shirt.

I wasn't sure how to place the pattern.

I cut and, with pins, tested four different versions (including the solid version up top):







I ended up choosing the last one: it's dotted consistently throughout (much like the front button placket); it doesn't darken or lighten horizontally.  It was actually cut on the grain, while the rest of the shirt was cut on the crossgrain.

Remember, my original fabric -- I'd bought two complete panels -- looked like this:



I decided to make my inside collar stand dark to add contrast.



I used real mother of pearl buttons, whose color varies from oyster to dark gray.  These work perfectly with the fabric.







And now -- drum roll, please -- the completed shirt!  (click on pics to enlarge)

















I'll take some photos at tonight's party at Elliot Berman Textiles so you can see me wearing the shirt.  I still have a few hours to go but I need them: I'm pooped.  My cold has passed, however, so even though I'm weary, I no longer feel sick.

Miracle sewing cure?  It's possible.
