Yee-Haw -- Peter Models the Western Shirt!

Readers, the Western shirt is done, pearl snaps and all!

To see me model it, just click here.

I am happy to report that this shirt does not feel costumey in the least.  And the best part of all is that it's even more beautiful after washing.  I love the slightly rumply texture of laundered cotton chambray.

I think if done in a low-key way, a Western-style cowboy shirt is a nice addition to a non-horseback-riding man's wardrobe.

For me, it's a definite -- and somewhat surprising -- YEA.   I'm guessing (hoping?) you agree.

Have a great day, everybody!

The pattern I used: Simplicity 6955 from 1966.

    2. Peter, just to let you know, your shirt is totally on trend right now. It would be a big hit with the denim community. What I also love is the relaxed fit of it and also the crumpled look of it. You should do a photo shoot with your jeans you made and boots .. and put your look side by side with the levi's version, 300 buck look versus what you can do for under 50 dollars.

    3. There's a denim community? What's that?

    4. You can start with: www.rawdenim.com You can also look at small batch denim makers like nobel denim. There are various USA artisans who make small batch clothing across the USA. I follow them since I love making jeans and working with denim. You will get to see all the styles that are currently hip etc

  4. Peter-- Lovely shirt. Another winnah!! Beautiful fabric. I bet you'll get lots of compliments and requests for that. You need a horse or a John Deere tractor for props in your next photo shoot.

    1. Some drinking establishments have props in their back rooms - perhaps our favorite male model needs to acquaint himself with such places?

Maybe you could hook up the treadmill so that Freddie and Willy can power the Singer :)

  6. Looking very good, Peter. With fading and some wear lines, this shirt is going to continue to improve as the years go by. I'd be interested to see you model it in, say, 5 years.

  7. Love Western shirts! Great style and just plain looks amazing. Those better be snaps, not buttons!

  8. Fantastic job as always, Peter. The shirt does not look "costumey"--I think you struck a nice balance. It looks good and I see it getting a lot of wear.

  9. Outstanding! You look wonderful in the shirt, not costume-like at all (not that there is anything wrong with costumes…)!

  10. Ok, in the comments to your previous post, I gave western shirts a resounding NAY but obviously that doesn't count for such a well-made, well-considered, subdued version. It's very nice although I would personally have kept that bias binding on the bottom edge to the inside (like I've shown in this post: http://petitmainsauvage.blogspot.nl/2014/04/shirt-details.html)

  11. Peter, I love the shirt. Not costume looking at all, just great looking and it fits you perfectly. Such beautiful top stitching.
