VLOG SUNDAY w/ Special Guest Star CATHY LANE!

People can be so cruel.

Look at this comment someone left earlier today (which I quickly deleted before Cathy could see it):

Why is it that women are constantly criticized for the way they look?  I mean, we all recognize that, as models go, thirty-something Cathy is just one step away from the glue factory, but can't we focus on the beauty within?  (Do you know how many times I've told her that smoking will ruin her complexion?  Do you think she listens?)

Anyway, I'll bet I'm not the only one who'd like to see what Anonymous looks like when he/she goes about his/her business -- the nerve!

"Watch your back, Anonymous!"

More upsetting news: I have received word this morning from the office of Ambassador Mauro Vieira that due to Cathy's suggestive photo with a banana, she is no longer welcome in Brazil.  I say, lighten up!

Anyway, I do have some GOOD news:  Cathy is my guest star on today's vlog.  You'll get to hear Cathy speak and sing!  I know you're going to enjoy watching the very special rapport that exists between us.

With no further delay, here's the latest episode. For those on portable devices, or who wish to view the vlog on YouTube, please click here.

Enjoy and have a great day, everybody!

PS - please leave your tactful beauty suggestions for Cathy below.

  1. Cathy's singing about Never-Never Land while walking past all that garbage -- classic. It seems the two of you have a, shall we say, 'teste' relationship? I think her makeup looks fine and speaking of watching one's back, does Cathy ever worry about her safety in public, aside from the risk of being trampled by her adoring fans or over-zealous photographer? I just hope everyone is safe and sound. Anyway, second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning.

  2. You make me so happy. Cathy's hair and makeup is perfect. Very Duchess of Windsor.

  3. I think Cathy is completely perfect the way she is. Don't listen to the haters, Cathy--they're just jealous!

  4. Cathy is perfect- I only wish I looked so good! Hope she appreciates your dressmaking on her behalf.

  5. Walking the streets of Greenwich Village, Cathy is vision straight out of Wonderful Town! Perhaps it was your mention of Brazil that brought it to mind, but wouldn't Ruth Sherwood be a great part for your cousin? She certainly demonstrates, as we see at the end of this treasure, that she has a range that surpasses Rosalind Russell's - and she's even singing something by very dear Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Where's David Merrick when you need him?

  6. How entertaining you both are! It is refreshing to see such a nice day and hearing songs that share the joy of creating great fashions. You are so lucky to have an identical cousin, Peter! Cathy's make-up and hair are stunning, she is a dramatic winter and uses that to her advantage!

  7. How hilarious it was to watch Cathy's face uttering the words "lovely little vlog" and her reaction to raising Simplicity...oh I love a good diva! :)

  8. I SOOOO love that dress!!!!!!! ( and cathy of course ;) ! )

  9. That was the first time I've watched your Vlog and I am glad I did! Cathy looked wonderful and her makeup looked fine to me, admittedly I haven't worn makeup for some years since I started working from home and looking after my children, but I remember what good makeup looked like. I suspect Anonymous wouldn't know good makeup if it jumped up and bit them in the behind

  10. Fantastic! Love your blog and the weekly vlog is so fun. I look forward to it each week.

And for the person who said that about Kathy's makeup... phtttthhpth !!!!!!!!

  11. My beauty suggestion for Cathy is not to lose any beauty sleep over this most unfortunate comment. I mean, the fact that the author didn't have enough confidence to post with their own name says it all. It's like who are you exactly & what's your credential? Anonymous? Exactly.

Cathy should doll up as she pleases. Enthusiasm & confidence is contagious.

  13. Something else, alright! Cathy's a gem and a very stylish gal, never mind the trolls. Great interview, too (especially Cathy's awkwardness about raising Simplicity).

    Spud.

  14. What on earth is there to criticize?? She looks great!

  15. I love the Sunday vlog - I look forward to it every week! Cathy is wonderful! Oh, and Peter, you are as well. So how is it that Cathy has white gloves in the photo shoot video, but red in the stills? I prefer the red . . .

  16. Cathy is perfect as she is, and that dress is gorgeous too.

  17. The red dress is so perfect for Cathy's figure. I love her walk, it's so free.

  18. The dress is a great fit! I'm still loving that fabric.

  19. I enjoyed the video--loved Cathy's comments about baby Simplicity. And I loved the first shoes she was wearing with her dress in the park (the light colored ones)--I was wishing I had shoes like them just this morning!

  20. Usual wonderful Sun nite vlog. Cathy was just lovely. and her singing while walking by trash bags was atmospheric. Kind of like those wonderful Italian neo-realism movies. The dress by her personal couturier Peter was perfect. I'm glad she wore a hat to protect her from sun's harsh rays, though I do see a parasol in her future. New Yorkers must be used to it all, no one bothers a model when she's working. peter I would love to hear you sing "Consider Yourself" from Oliver

  21. Love the dress! And the singing! and Cathy's makeup! and your smile! and Michael's piano playing... thank you for bringing the sun in our very grey, wet, stormy day here in Wellington. Anne-Marie

  22. Cathy's make-up looked fine! Was the snipe comment implying too much or too little?

  23. Lovely dress, and loved the singing and Michael. Cathy looked sassy.

  24. Love Cathy!
I was reading somewhere that the trick to doing model-type walk, is to stand up straight back, pretend you have a book balanced on your head, and then walk on an imaginary straight line, with one foot exactly in front of the other on that line. Apparently, this gives the hips that extra bit of sassy sway!

  25. Love the Vlog! I now want to see you and Cathy duet "I hear singing (but there's no one there)" - Ethel Merman/Donald O'Conner style - it would be FANTASTIC

    ReplyDelete
  26. ..and cruel remarks sent anonymously. This person clearly doesn't have the b**ls that Cathy does!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cathy doesn't need a makeup artist as much as I do! And sadly I'd like to roll Cathy for her gloves. Looking fabulous!

  28. Cathy's color is red...totally. beauty tips? I think I would like to see her with a little bit longer hair in a lighter, warmer color, blonde would be a bit harsh for her delicate complexion and clash with her joan crawford eyes.....a soft auburn maybe

  29. I absolutely adore this Vlog! Cathy's dress is wonderfully crafted and who would expect anything less. She is lovely just the way she is so haters go away and learn to enjoy life. Peter, thank you for bringing a smile to my face. I always learn something about sewing and usually a little more here! Take care!

  30. Makeup is over rated. Cathy is beautiful just the way she is!

  31. Is that during the World Cup?

    ReplyDelete
  32. So much fun! I have no beauty suggestions for Cathy, she's so beautiful just the way she is!!! Watch out Peter she'll steal the show!

  33. I can't express how much I adore your vlog! Brightens my morning every time. Cathy's such a fox!

  34. Peter, you're doing a great job as a host, and Cathy is a natural along the lines of Virginia Graham (and her makeup's perfect). As someone who's worked in TV, my tips are 1. Have a camera shot sit a little lower, so the top of your head is almost to the top of the screen, and 2. have a simpler background behind you during your "welcome" portion. The background and lighting was much better where Cathy was sitting. Good luck with it and have fun!

  35. Cathy is ravishing but makes for an interview somewhere between Joaquin Phoenix and any Miss South Carolina. I wanted the dirt. I wanted the glamour. I wanted stories about the Kardashians...

  36. Cathy is absolutely gorgeous and should probably be the one dispensing make up advice! I love how she protects her fair skin with a hat and gloves (a lady always covers up, and Cathy is nothing if not a lady). When the rest of us (yea, looking at you, Anonymous), her hatless, gloveless 30-something year old contemporaries are creaking around in our chapped, cracking skin bags 40 years from now, Cathy will still have beautiful, glowing young skin and will still look like the New Girl in Town, here to steal our husbands!

  37. Absolutely fantastic!-liz (didn't want to be anonymous!)

  38. I love that outfit and I think Cathy looks great.

  39. I loved this video and the dress! Red is definitely Cathy's color. All the singing was very nice and made me feel oddly special (like Peter was singing right to me!). That's a rare talent. You really picked my mood up, thank you so much.

  40. I know this is a tad late by over a year. However, as a brazilian I can say it. The embassador is clueless. Way back in the days, Cathy like ladies were dressing for carnival or not everywhere in Brasil.
At the Northeast coast it was common practice as it is today. Brazilians are very comfortable in their own skin. Oh yeah!
It is one of the first countries to recognize gay marriage.

    Go ahead look it up.

  41. Cathy is Cathy. Entirely self made. "I am what I am, my own special creation". We who are also self made, appreciate what time and effort Cathy expends.

Cathy's transformation is nothing short of miraculous and we should sup0ort her wholheartedly!
