More Comic Book Bathos + Michael Wears the Shirt -- BETTER THAN I DO!

I can't deny it: Michael looks better in this purple gingham/floral shirt than I do.  Is it his skin tone?  His blue eyes?  His grayish hair?  Therefore I have decided to let him have it.  How frustrating!

There's a lot going on here at MPB: new fabric, a new vintage pattern, but it will have to wait.  I really want to share more from those 1965 comic books I found at the flea market yesterday.

Lots of pics, so steel yourself!

IS Wade cheating?

Does Ron love Jacky...or Caroline?

Should Jean avoid Bart and stick with gentle Jerry?

Is Cal just after Cindy's money?

Is Cara too smart for Hank?

And finally, is this muu muu worth $1.89?

Have a great day, everybody!

  1. Purple is fabulous for blue eyes.

  2. I have to disagree. I would say you wear it better.

  3. I think both of you wear clothing well, Peter! Anyway, I couldn't help but read the comics quietly aloud using what I imagine to be the characters voices. Haha!

  4. I wonder what the free surprise gift that came with the muu muu was?

  5. Jerry looks like Richard Geere! I think I preferred the shirt on you, but perhaps that's just the photos? I was focusing on the gingham rather than Michaels baby blues - which is surely a crime!

  6. Oh the drama and the lust! I wonder if a modern day version of these comics would provide near as much entertainment?
    I want that muu muu.

  7. You BOTH look great in that shirt - why don't you share it ??!!

  8. I prefer you in the shirt. I'm surely not alone in finding the comics distasteful? I was the bright girl but fortunately didn't have to change fundamentally - I felt that Sandie in Grease, too, did women no favours.

  9. You both look great in the shirt. And Wow!! All the teen angst in those comics. Women should never be that insecure about themselves.

  10. Thanks for the high hilarity.

That shirt is a masterpiece, lucky Michael.

  11. These comics remind me of Mad Men!

  12. If I gave away or made everything for someone else that could wear it better, my closet would be empty. You must either share or quit letting him model your own wardrobe if you are always going to have this result. On the flip side those who live with sewing people that people who hoard machines, sewing stuff, and even hmmm comic books probably deserve many great shirts. Just saying.

  13. You both look good in the shirt, but it really does set off Michael's eyes.

Your comic books are giving me flashbacks to freshman year of high school. I remember a comic book that started with two sweet hometown kids-- a boy and a girl-- who don't say no to marijuana on the first page and by the last page, he's home shooting up, next to a sad baby in a playpen wearing a dirty diaper, and she's walking the streets to hustle up enough money for his next fix. This may have scarred me for life. Or saved me from drugs. Or both.

  14. Please please please tell us the names of the artists on those comics; I'm trying to figure out whether I recognise them or not! Is the Ron, Jacky and Caroline one by Mike Sekowsky?

    1. Apparently not; it's Girls' Romances #112. There's no credit given anywhere.

  15. Let's just face it, Michael can just carry off any shirt you make!!! I thought he looked fabulous in the crossword shirt you made. Perhaps he missed a career as a model.

  16. I could not read through them all. It's clearly not my cup of tea, genre-wise, stylistics-wise, not even for fun.
But your last question is priceless! :D

I'm not going to judge on the shirt, because... I guess I just don't feel like judging from a photo for a person who lives six hours of time zones away from me. But I began thinking, doesn't this actually happen to you quite a lot, with your makes and Michael? I think you should call yourself lucky, you have a partner who looks great in the clothes that might end up lingering in your closet otherwise, would end up there were it another person making them! Right?! Does what I've just written make sense?!

  17. P.S. And maybe you just like Michael. Does this enter the consideration? Am I too nosy for bringing it up? I'm clearly thinking in questions today, I think you've infected me.

  18. I was Googling 'round looking for suggestions for alterations for a man's shirt when one shoulder is higher than another. And ended up here. The standard advice is to use a shoulder pad on the low shoulder. Any other options? I don't want to over-fit and draw attention to the lower shoulder; but I would like to reduce the wrinkles in the yoke area. thank you for a very enjoyable (writing and pics) blog.

    1. Here's a link to how to do a sloping shoulder adjustment; you can try it on the lower shoulder:
