The White Linen Pants are Finished!

Good news, readers: I have finished my linen pants!  (Those are NOT them up top, but rather the J. Crew inspiration.)

And I have even better news: the pants are not see-though.  Can you tell I'm wearing gray boxers with black trim?  Well I am.  As far as nude underwear, as a few people suggested yesterday, I have never seen anything like that for men, aside from dance belts, and I'm not squeezing myself into one of those.

I am extremely pleased with the way the pants turned out; the linen really behaved.  I even copied the cute button loops from my tight white H&M pants.

The inside seam leg is flat-felled, the outside leg seam is just stitched with the seam allowances serged (separately).

I still have to hem these and I think tomorrow we'll do our photo shoot.  I'll wear the white pants and the butter shirt, and maybe a few other recently completed items that look good with this ensemble (groovy sheet blazer? Marc Jacobs taffeta jacket?).  As far as sunglasses, it's anybody's guess.

Cathy's Michael Kors.

Friends, I do hope your sewing projects are coming along well.  I want to see some linen action!

Happy Friday, everybody!

  3. I think Cathy's sunglasses are the most flattering, and the funky ones are the most cool. Why settle for 'mundane" when you can have 'distinctive"?. And, great job on the pants. Glad to see they aren't as see-through as you feared! Looking forward to the photo shoot with the "butter' shirt!

  5. Very impressive! I admire everything you make but since I'm too intimidated to try pants (the fly in particular) I'm directing a virtual 'we're not worthy' at you.

I like Cathy's sunglasses best! Do you think she would lend them to you?

  7. Love the belt loops, great job. love the white linen trousers, they remind me of summer, which I am pinning for.

  8. Nice job. The fly especially. Although the crotch needs a little more length and letting out the side seams by the pockets to relax the pulIing as The pockets are sticking out. This would mean letting out gradually the back only. But over all it a professional look.
And light grey pocketing material for white fashion fabric this was especially handy when I apprenticed with An old school tailor rather than buying various shades of nude to match skin tones.

  9. I love the pants, but I am not a fan of linen. It always looks crushed. Great job though!

  10. Love those belt loops! It's a small detail, but they really elevate the pants.

Willy is really working his pensive pose.

  13. Don't you just L-O-V-E sewing linen? It's one of my favorite fabrics to sew. Wearing it is another story - with all the wrinkles - but sewing it is great.

  14. Yes, the pants look fabulous! I am truly envious. You need to make Willy some coordinating accessory. You look like Peter Bond and Willy Bond; tres suave and debonair!

  15. The pants are fabulous! Looking forward to seeing you put your recent garments together. An unintentional sewing with a plan? If memory serves, everything you've made recently mixes and matches very nicely.

  19. I love the belt loop detail as well - especially coupled with the striped cloth belt. Really elegant. The butter shirt would be perfect with it - or wear almost any colored t-shirt and pair it with the cool flowered jacket you just finished.

  21. They look great. I love those belt loops.

I have a fear of white pants, myself.

  22. Great job!! This is a little off-topic, but perhaps you'd like to start another one of your debates... ;-) When is it OK to start wearing white? I'm from the northeast and always heard is was after Memorial Day, but that seems so late. Does anyone still observe or think about this anymore or am I the only one? I'd love to pull out my white linen pants now.

    1. I subscribe to that more or less -- unless the weather is unseasonably mild. I wouldn't wear linen this early, plus it's not warm enough. Then of course there's winter white...
