I'm a little late with this, friends, but I'm excited to be giving away a copy of the December 2012/January 2013 copy of Vogue Patterns with my most recent article in it, all about my favorite vintage sewing machine models!
Of course, this issue of Vogue Patterns is also chock full of expert sewing instruction, beautiful contemporary fashion, vintage pattern reissues, and so much more.
As always, this giveaway is open to MPB readers the whole world over. But wait -- there's more!
Starting next month, I will be lending my Y chromosome to the marvelous Mood Sewing Network. I am super-excited about this, friends. You can read more about the MSN here, but in a nutshell (quoting directly from the site):
Each month Mood Fabrics provides the Mood Sewing Network bloggers with an allowance for fabric that they can spend online at MoodFabrics.com or in our NYC or LA stores. The bloggers, in turn, will sew a garment with Mood fabrics each month and then blog about it on their own blogs and here.
I mean, how cool is that?
Now I have a favor to ask of you: If you're interested in throwing your hat in the ring for the Vogue Patterns giveaway, it would be great if your comment could include something you'd like me to sew with my Mood fabric. Anything is possible with the exception of a wedding gown for Cathy.
Is there anything in particular you would like me to make? (A related sew-along is a possibility too.)

Cathy has just the body for that delightful combo.

Or, a British style waxed canvas "shooter's jacket". Or, a woman's sheer shirt with "modesty" pockets, fabric of variegated color rather than standard black or white or red.

How about sewing a silk button up, seems like you're the king (queen, too?) of button up shirts! and I've been dying to learn to sew with silk, so I would definitely sew along with that from the comforts of my own home!
I am with the folks that are voting for men's wear. A trench, a suit jacket, a speedo...something that you can use. It seems a waste of gift fabric to make a one off item.

ReplyDeleteI'd love to see you sew more menswear of any type, since I have a husband and two teenage sons I sew for. There's a dearth of information on making men's clothes as compared to women's. I enjoy seeing what men make for themselves or what women make for their men.
Congratulations! I vote that you make something that pushes you out of your style comfort zone but that you think you can make yourself wear regularly. I don't know what that is, so I'm not too helpful, I guess. Anyway, congratulations!

I have some old women's suit patterns of my grandmother's that I'm afraid of starting and you're just the man to take the fear out of making suits! Congratulations on your article and becoming a part of Mood's Sewing Network. Wouldn't Cathy be just stunning recreating some historical events: Sacagawea meeting Lewis and Clark. Or, Amelia Earhart before she flew over the Atlantic or, maybe Leona Hensley throwing her employees to the wolves! Come on! There are some great history there in your own back yard that Cathy (and you) could recreate in costume.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the article as that is my favorite topic at the moment -vintage machines-I really have the bug bad. If I win please autograph it since you are now a sewing celeb. I vote on the satin vintage pjs for Cathy or a light weight 3/4 coat that is not bulky but lined for you or herself as I need one like that to replace one that was overly loved and the sleeve got a tear. Even if I don't win I will try to pick this copy up someplace as I want to read the article.

I'm extremely excited at even the PROSPECT of a new sew along, but even just seeing your new creations each month is going to be fabulous.
ReplyDeleteAs for suggestions, I'm all for men's wear. Outerwear (peacoat or trenchcoat), also a sew along for accessories would make my year! I'm thinking gloves, hats, bags, and (dare I say it) shoes???
If you decide that you absolutely must do an outfit for Cathy, I think it would be fun to take this Spring/Summer's "in" colors of mustard yellow and bright blue then apply them to a vintage pattern of your choosing!
I hope every time you leave Mood, you put on your best Tim Gunn impersonation and yell "Thank you Mood." while you're walking out the door. Either that or try giving yourself a P.R. esque time limit one week and yell out the time you have left to yourself.
