Holy Housecoat! Cathy wins the PR Vintage Pattern Contest!

Readers, I'm about as far from a "math person" as you can get, but if it's true that numbers don't lie -- and good grief, I hope they don't -- then Cathy's opera coat has just won the vintage pattern contest on Pattern Review!

Now you're probably thinking, What vintage pattern contest?  Friends, I'm not a competitive person.  But Cathy was so happy with her coat -- which I just happened to complete on the final day of contest submissions -- that she insisted we enter it.  When it comes to self-promotion, my cousin has the instincts of Jayne Mansfield.

Between you and me, I suspect Cathy's condition made her the sentimental favorite, as none of the other contestants were, well, you know, or if they were, it didn't show.  And there were some very lovely and ambitious entries.

Unfortunately, I have discovered that Cathy is quite cutthroat about sewing contests, once even suggesting we send Laura Mae wool knit containing moth larvae.  I think the modeling industry makes you this way, frankly; there's so much backstabbing it's practically ballet.

Considering I'm the one who does the sewing, Cathy really shouldn't take all the credit but that's my cousin.  I only hope I haven't contributed to her diva ways by promoting her celebrity on this blog.

Readers, between my birthday, fabric shopping with Australians, and now this -- it's all a little too much.

Thankfully, there is the SIL dress to remind me that at the end of the day, I'm just another put-upon seamster!

Happy Friday, everybody!

UPDATE:  It's official!

Congratulations on your win! I'm hoping you do the opera coat sew-a-long...i've found a pattern i like, have a model lined up (miss19's friend who stays with us one night a week) as my borrowed body to sew for and bribed my miss19 to do a photo shoot with said model.

  5. Congrats, Peter! I haven't been paying attention this year, because of babies and too much moving in and out, and didn't enter myself. (And this is the one contest that I usually enter, too.)

And I just love that photo of preggers Cathy smoking. It seems so subversive nowadays, it made me howl with laughter when I saw it!

  21. A worthy win. I wish I'd seen that outfit in my fertile years, although I doubt I could have rocked it like Cathy.

  22. I bet opera is just as catty as ballet, though the divas are ususally a few sizes bigger. Many congratulations to you and to Cathy!
