Modeling My Cotton-Linen Jacket and Pants at Mood!

Run, friends, run. . .

. . . to the Mood Sewing Network, to see me modeling my denim-blue cotton-linen ensemble.  Just click here!

Naturally, I am VERY curious to know what you make of this ensemble*.

Is it...

A) Too retro?

B) Too reminiscent of Mr. Furley from Three's Company?

C) Just right?

D) Other

*NOTE: While modeled as an ensemble, these pieces totally work as separates and will most likely be worn that way a lot of the time.

Have a great day, everybody!

  1. I'll go for "C". This outfit is fabulously retro without looking costumey. I love it and you look great in it. I think it will look great as separates as well. I like the jacket the best.

  2. Retro but with a 21st century feel to it. Your pictures are great!

  3. Definitely C, but you earn an A+ for the whole ensemble. Love your different stylings in the phot but I would forget the ascot...that's maybe too Furley.

  4. C! It's retro, but the fabric choice gives it a modern feel to me. I really like the back pleat on the jacket. I can totally see how these pieces will work well as separates too.

  5. I'll go with C as well. Very nice outfit and beautiful workmanship!

  6. You look great coming and going in this one! I love the fabric. So yes, C would be my answer.

  7. The jacket is the perfect marriage of silhouette and fabric choice. If I found the jacket in a store I would buy it. It looks great today but will improve as it ages and speaking of which, your modeling really sells it. Well done, sir!

  8. (c) though I'd prefer the pieces worn as separates.

I love the fabric and the buttons are the perfect choice for the jacket.

    Well done!

  9. If there is an alternate universe where there exists a classy Canadian tuxedo- this would be it.

  10. I FREAKIN' LOVE IT. The fabric is awesome. It fits terrifically. The style is wacky in a way you can totally pull off. Well done.

  12. D - My first thought was that you looked like you were about to break into a Jerome Robbins choreographed dance number!

  13. Love Love Love this ensemble. Love the sneakers with it. They almost look like sailor pants. Love the T and unders. Topstitching is top drawer. Another MPB winnah. A topic for vlog. Do you use pins when you sew?

  14. (c) Just right.
Totally styling, in a Saturday Night Fever kind of way.

  15. Beautiful job, as always, Peter! I think the outfit looks great buttoned up. It does remind me however of my husband when I first met him in 1970...he looked just as dashing. BTW, I always thought you were a tall man! Anne-Marie

  16. Not crazy about the items combine, but LOVE them as separates! Like the outfit best with the sandals and least with the dark shoes.

  17. i think it looks very fashion-forward as en ensemble, despite the very tangible retro flavor. i imagine you'll get more wear from the pieces as separates, but i am all for bringing back a bit of old days glamour!

  18. I love this outfit. Retro, but not costumey. Fun. Great fabric and fit. A+

  19. I love it best all buttoned with the splash of ascot color.

  20. D It is too matchy matchy. The jacket I like, and I think they would look great as separates. Mix them up with different colors and some textures. As usual your garments are perfection.

  21. I really like the pieces together (and apart). The neckerchief looks fantastic! I'm inspired to make an ensemble of my own. To the fabric store for a quantity of sturdy shirting!

I'm also inspired to make a cabana set or two this summer. (How short can I get my shorts and still look nice? Hmm...)

    1. I say neckerchief for your neckwear there, but now I'm not sure. I was a scout (scouting actually taught me to sew) and that's what they're called, but maybe when a neckerchief is on a non-scout it's called a bandana or a scarf? (The things you think about when you're bored and trying to avoid work.)

  22. I think they look great! I prefer trousers which are not quite so wide at the ankle, but they really fit you well and look good in that back view shot. The jacket is fab!

  23. I think the outfit looks retro but certainly not too much so. It looks great.

  24. I am a total lurker, but I've just got to say that is an excellent outfit. Just absolutely on the mark - sorta avante-garde but not distractingly so, something that is current but not something that will just look dated in two years, wonderful fabric, really suitable for summer. (I think the mesh tank is a great touch.) Simply a terrific outfit!

  25. Hey Peter! First time commenting...Whoop! Whoop! Loving the jacket and trousers! just had to tell you, I was in Milan on holiday last week and passed by the Prada shop. They have your jacket and trousers in their window!!! on closer inspection though they were sub par in every way...the fabric was much darker and corser, the fit was much more boxy and the finishing was frankly terrible! Even my better half comented on it! What a cheek on their part to copy your clothes and do such a shocking job of it! Keep up the great work!!!!!
