Peter Models the "Home Sewing Is Easy" Shirt!

Friends, I usually don't just post a bunch of photos without text, but I don't think this photo shoot needs much explanation.

So here it is, my just-completed "Home Sewing Is Easy" shirt!  (Butterick 4712)  You can click on the pics to see them larger.

Needless to say, my shirt fits a whole lot better than this one (costing $180), which I tried on a few weeks ago, launching me on this journey.

Some details:

In conclusion, I love this shirt.  It's soft, comfortable, and fun to wear.   And it's a real ice-breaker!

Have a great day, everybody!

  2. Love it...glad you went long sleeve. I'm sure this will soften greatly with wear....except you might not wear it as much as a basic neutral. I'd wash it every chance you get.

  4. What a happy looking shirt-- love the colors on you. I also love the shirt styled with the jacket and cap-- it looks great! I can't wait to see Michael in his crossword print, which is a good color for him.

  6. What's the reasoning for making a flat hem rather than a curved hem? Stylistic decision, or because you don't want to tuck? Not a criticism, just curious! I've rarely seen men's shirts with the straight hem. :)

    1. For casual shirts I intend to wear untucked most of the time I prefer a flat hem. For a more formal dress shirt, I'll do the curved hem.

    3. I must say they did a pretty lousy job of placing the pattern on the Gittman Bros. ready-to-wear version.

I find remarkable how much better is the fit on your shirt. Generally, I prefer close fitted shirts, but with this fabric, anyway, a bit more ease looks dramatically better. I wonder if that is because the pattern is busy and so needs to "drape out" more? I'll have to noodle on that for a bit.

Serious congrats on your shirt. Excellent job.

  37. Fun and fab! I must buy some of that fabric

  38. What a clever ole stick you are, the shirt looks top notch.

  40. Love it. I am glad you went with long sleeves. I would have liked a curved or chiseled hem like when you have hands in pockets. (sometimes these prints with straight hem can look like pajama top). Love it and love you. Keep it up.

  46. Dear Peter: GREAT SHIRT. Love the motif; so appropriate!

Soooo, I was going to ask you is you would be interested in a shirt's worth of high-end black mother-of-pearl shirt buttons? I have this 5-lb box of them and was thinking of peddling them on E-bay, but I would like to send you a dozen of them so you can see for yourself how very fabulous they are. If you send your snail mail addy to sufiyah216@gmail.com I will send you a dozen-pack (that should be enough for a shirt, cuffs and a couple of extras, right?
