New Fabric, New Patterns, New BABY!
Readers, I am proud to announce that last Monday, September 3rd, (Labor Day), my cousin Cathy gave birth to a 10 lb. bouncing baby girl.
Meet Simplicity!
It took a little convincing on my part re the name, but Cathy finally relented and now she loves it. Above is baby Simplicity just before the ride home yesterday. Isn't she adorable?
There's so much to tell, friends, but today I wanted to share some other new arrivals -- fresh vintage finds from our Provincetown trip and the Chelsea flea market.
At a local crafts show I found these vintage buttons (and a buckle) -- sweet and practical.
At a thrift store in Provincetown, I found yards of vintage Seventies (Sixties?) terrycloth. I am so stoked about this as good terrycloth is so hard to find.
I picked up a few magazines too, mainly for Cathy to read while recovering.
Back home, I had good luck today at the Chelsea flea market. I bought five vintage patterns, including...
And great vintage Forties shoes! So hard to find in Cathy's size, and just $10 a pair. (The red pair are from Bergdorfs.)
You can see more pics of these finds, as well as some fun vintage magazine ads, here.
Friends, I'm very glad to be back, though I did have fun on our trip. I'll have more to share in the days ahead, including Cathy's latest photo shoot -- taken on the actual beaches of Cape Cod, Massachusetts!
From me, Michael, the dogs, Cathy and Simplicity Lane, many thanks for all your good wishes during the break.
Have a great day, everybody!
Welcome back. We missed you.
ReplyDeleteIs it my imagination or was that baby just 16 pounds?? Maybe I've got to lay off the sauce. Congrats to all and happy to meet the new addition. Glad to see that Cathy chose a baby name that can't be shortened.
ReplyDeleteYou're right: we'd forgotten to take her out of the bassinet!
DeleteName can't be shortened you say? "Simple" popped into my head, along with "Simplicity Jane" for some reason.
DeleteI missed you too. I see vintage baby clothes in your future.
ReplyDeleteSimplicity is adorable. Do you and Michael have a new little one?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. She's beautiful and I love the name: I think it might start a celebrity baby name craze. And I really can't wait for the latest photo shoot -- since postpartum woman are always eager to get back into a bathing suit. Nice to see you pop up in the fb feed -- I missed you, too.
ReplyDeleteCathy is very productive. The plot thickens!
ReplyDeleteNay...reproductive!
DeleteI can hardly wait to see your cousin once removed grow up. Are you going to start sewing for her? I can hardly wait to see what you make. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeth
Simplicity?? I think "Butterick" or "Vogue" would have been a better baby name choice! Or even 'Marfy'!
ReplyDeleteI love the name. So beautiful and so simple.
ReplyDeleteGood grief, we have waited all this time and you give us a few short sentences, one picture and then you start talking about buttons!!! C'mon give us the scoop.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! :DD I really, really hate to be "that person" who has no kids and still comments on other people's, but that adorable baby should be put to sleep on her back.
ReplyDeleteThat's mostly a myth, you just want to avoid having them on their stomach the first few weeks while lungs develop. I had two, they made it just fine. ;)
DeleteTwo lungs or two stomachs? Or do you mean two babies?
DeleteTwo babies, now ages 11 and 9. ;)
DeleteSimplicity is adorable. Congratulations on the new addition to your family circle. I can't wait to see what baby outfits you'll be sewing for Simplicity. Great score at the flea market. Those 1940's black wedge shoes are to die for, Cathy will love them I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful buttons, buckle and baby!
ReplyDeleteI am sure Cathy will be like all those other celeb mama's and be back in shape in under three weeks. She'll tell us that breast is best and that she never skips her shower and that the baby is sleeping full nights already.
ReplyDeleteoh wow....congrats! Love her name!
ReplyDelete(and your blog as well :)
Great name!! Love the black vintage shoes...nice score! And, welcome back...I've missed you.
ReplyDeleteps- can't wait to see the photoshoot!
I love the post with the latest the news and I am looking forward to see Cathy back in her old good sculptural shape again! :) I have miss you two! Simplicity is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhy Cathy's of course!
ReplyDeleteSo... how much time is Cathy's cousin and husband going to spend "helping" raise the baby? She's lovely, btw, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Cousin Cathy on the arrival of her beautiful baby girl!
ReplyDeleteLove the name Simplicity and Oh BTW...love your vintage finds!!! I agree with sewgranny...one blurb of the new kid on the block but lots for show and tell from the flea mkt... so typical.
ReplyDeleteRemember, she's my cousin's child after all, not mine!
DeleteI'll have to agree with Sophie Miriam. "Back to sleep" is the current recommendation for newborns, until they can turn over themselves. Incidence of SIDS has decreased since this recommendation. It's not a myth. Baby can sleep on her tummy on a human tummy. That's the baby's natural habitat. Just a chldbirth and newborn educator's thoughts.
ReplyDeleteCongraulations to Cathy and all of you on your new baby. Life will now change like you won't believe. Soon you won't remember when she wasn't there!
What a cutie-pie that baby is! But at 10 lbs, Cathy is made of stronger stuff than I am (but we already knew that). Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the flea market photos, too.
Sad but true, I know a girl named Vogue. The good think though is that she actually likes her name.
