Peter in Pajamas!
Friends, there are two kinds of men: ones who wear pajamas and ones who don't. I certainly don't want to reinforce stereotypes, but some men have pajamas written all over them.
And some don't.
I never thought I liked pajamas until I made my own. Now I don't want to get out of them.
For those arriving late to the pajama party, I made these short cotton pajamas out of three different soothing shades of seersucker: gray, lavender, and pale brown.
The pants, which I completed yesterday, have two front fly buttons (the pattern called for just one but I feel safer with two), and a waistband casing with a twill tape tie.
I've since replaced the twill tape, which felt flimsy, with wider, sturdier elastic, though the twill tape was a nice vintage touch.
Would my pattern, Simplicity 9956 from 1990, be considered vintage? I hope not, but maybe so. Anyway, pajama patterns haven't changed much over the last century and why should they?
You're probably wondering if I slept in my pajamas last night. Friends, I do think that crosses a line. You'll just have to decide for yourselves.
And so, the pajama game has ended.
I hope you'll open your heart to pajamas if you haven't already. They're really quite fun to make and even if they're never slept in, they're great for dress-up and let's not forget community theater.
Have a very Doris day, everybody!
Adorable :)
ReplyDeletePeter, <3 the tri-colour look!! (Difficult to "figure out" what colour to put where??)

Ha, you're funny! Since you don't want to take them off, I'm quite certain you wore them to bed last night. They look great! I was a bit skeptical of the 3-color combo (as concerned as you can be when the subject is sleepwear) but they look very fun!
ReplyDeleteFantastic PJs!! I think telling us you need TWO fly buttons is much more personal than whether or not you slept in your new PJs. Now I have quite an image stuck in my head. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou sew sew quickly yet efficiently, you ought to do this for a living
ReplyDeletePajamas really are the greatest thing ever.
ReplyDeleteI like the baseball shirt style of PJ. The shirt style of pj top comes out of the dryer messy. With the baseball style, you should be able to wear right from the dryer because everything is sewn down. I think the mix of seersucker works well, and you should enjoy these for a long time. Well done. A much more vintage tie would have been cotton cable cord! Elastic in the casing makes everything more secure and comfy.
ReplyDeletegreat pjs and I am reading your posts with great interest but Eastwood doesn't strike me as the pj type or was that the point :)
ReplyDeleteNice workmanship as always. Appreciate the time you take to post no matter what it is you're sewing.
ReplyDeleteFabulous PJs..they look very comfy!!!
ReplyDeleteOk, I am late to the party - my little brother was visiting all week. I stalk Brooks Brothers for size XS mens pajamas - why have I never thought to make my own? I'll have to snag a men's PJ pattern - I'm sure I would fit into a mens' small.
ReplyDeleteSearsucker will be nice and cool for summer, and your choice to use contrasting colors is really inspiring. Great project, Peter.
Pj's greatest function is as an excuse, because, hey - someone else has to go to the store... I'm still in my pajamas.
ReplyDeleteHey Peter, nice jammies! I love the facing as applique technique. That finish would be great on the project that I am teaching on my blog, although I'm following the pattern for the tutorial. I'll definitely use the applique method for the next top I make from that pattern! Great job - keep it coming!
ReplyDeleteThose look like all kinds of cozy summer time fun :)
ReplyDelete<3 Many giggle here re: "men who don't"! XD
ReplyDeleteAnd as usual, what lovely sewing!!
You don't strike as the pajama type either-- except as something fun to wear before you go to bed. (-;
ReplyDeleteThank you, lw, you are my new best friend.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, you're treading on flimsy twill tape!
I must get organised and make myself a pair for winter - it's getting cold at night in our draughty villa!
ReplyDeleteI believe that seersucker will look as good getting up in the morning as it does at bedtime. Mimosas and eggs benedict should accompany. Another inspiring ensemble!
ReplyDeleteLove the PJs! Like how you color blocked! Also had a blast guessing who would or would not wear pajamas! ;D
ReplyDeleteLove the color combination, very subtle but very pleasing. I'll bet you did NOT wear them to bed, unless you ironed them before you put them back on for the photo!
ReplyDeleteI'm almost inspired to make a pair, even though I hate wearing pj's!
Thanks for keeping us guessing ..... they look very comfy though!
ReplyDeleteSo comfy looking and nice use of similar colors! I love the yawning pic, it is making me yawn too
ReplyDeleteVery nice pajamas - my son wears his 24-7, so you're right in style.

Oh my gosh, I just discovered your blog. As a newish sewer, I am thrilled. I have have only two men to sew for(husband and son) and right now I am making vintage pyjamas for them. I LOVE vintage patterns......I sure hope they will!! I, unfortunately have pattern dyslexia, so sewing is such a challenge for me!!! If only I had someone beside me to help! But now I found your blog, so it is the next best thing. I will definitely be using your shirt sew a long because I have some vintage shirt patterns in waiting. Maybe a little ambitious for a beginner!
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Cynthia!

ReplyDeleteinspired me to wear the kind of long pajamas I wore as a kid for a few years - but eventually I went back to just a T-shirt and a smile.
Nice pajams are great when you have house guests though and my cream-coloured cotton satin jammies are always at the ready for me to make a Brick-like appearance.
