Cathy models the yellow 1941 dress!
Could there have been a more beautiful April day than yesterday? The perfect sunny weather to model a daffodil-yellow dress!
We all know what a trouper my cousin Cathy is, but this time she showed a willingness to push so far beyond her edging-into-breakdown comfort zone, I was moved to tears. She even altered her lip line.
I won't give too much away, but I will share that another member of Cathy's family is revealed in this photo shoot: someone even more glamorous than she is!
If you'd like to view the album full-size, please click on any image to go directly to Picasa, then choose "View All" in the upper left hand corner, and "Slideshow."
Don't forget the popcorn -- and the Kleenex!
If you still have the emotional energy, you can also follow the minutia of my dressmaking process here.
Enjoy!
What a lovely outfit in a fun color. I see where Cousin Cathy gets her good looks!
ReplyDeleteOh Peter, you have excelled yourself with this one! I just LOVE the adventures of Cathy (I didn't realise she had such exciting and exotic forebears, but I should have guessed!!)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite shot was in front of the brilliant blue wall - the contrast with the yellow outfit was really striking.
And don't let the comments about drag queens get you down. Jealousy is a most unattractive quality, even though we are probably all jealous of Cathy!!
Another killer outfit, another fascinating installment in the life of Cathy. What a dramatic fashion heritage - and since she's your cousin, it must be yours as well!
ReplyDelete*claps* Very well done, Peter! Love the dress!
ReplyDeleteBravo! Bravo! Love the dress, adore the color, and the fur stole is so perfect with it. Made the most of those lovely cherry blossoms :-).

Ah Beatrice Lane ... truly the golden girl of The Golden Age. Her dress is devine. Edith Head couldn't have done any better.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful trip through time and family.... REMARKABLE resemblances, all 'round!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is divine - timeless style in a poly-cotton sheet. Who'd a thunk it?
wow - you put so much work into that outfit, photo shoot and story...I can't wait to see what is next! Bravo to you Peter in NYC!
ReplyDeleteCathy is so lucky . .. you did such a marvelous job on the outfit! Well done! Can't wait to read about Cathy's next escapade!
ReplyDeleteEspecially love the hat . . . I saw something similar (but much larger!) in a shop yesterday, and I think it wants to come home with me.
Brava! Cathy looks gorgeous as always. Love the slideshow and story. Great job, Peter!

Fav pix is the blue wall. Great dress, great story, great pix.
ReplyDeleteI finished my file cabinet cover yesterday! Yay for me. Cut it out on Friday and sewed it yesterday. Now on to my daughter's pj pants.
Love you blog!
Totally amazing!! I am ashamed to be a film graduate and be incapable of pulling off such a stunningly compelling still storytelling ;o)
ReplyDeleteThe family beauty and uncanny resemblance between you all is remarkable!
OMG - Beatrice Lane!! Wasn't she with Marsha Hunt in "Women in Hiding" (1941?). I knew I'd seen that face before! And Cathy looks lovely in daffodil yellow - which is actually such a difficult color to wear. Bravo - great job!
ReplyDeleteToby, YES -- that's her!! Or was it Ann Rutherford...?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments everyone. (It certainly doesn't get much draggier than this!)
Love it! I like what you did with the waistband, but what happened to the fab purple shoes? Nice job posing, as usual, Cathy!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done--everything--dress, photos, story. Thanks to you and Cathy for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCousin Cathy and Beatrice looked lovely in yellow!
ReplyDeletePeter - no, Marsha Hunt was with Ann Rutherford in "Pride and Prejudice" - (I have Marsha Hunt's book, "The Way We Wore" so, I'm cheating here, actually).
ReplyDeleteWow - you have outdone yourself. I love the dress and the story. Bellissima!
ReplyDeleteExcellent, Peter! Your Aunt & Cousin are lovely, lovely women with great taste in vintage.
ReplyDeleteKathy
I have a dream.
ReplyDeleteAnd in this dream, your stylish cousin Cathy gives my cousin Helga lessons in lady like deportment. You see, Helga was raised with boys and at 270 pounds she's a bit 'overwhelming'. I'm in the middle of making myself an evening gown for a formal wedding we're to attend in Hamburg next month, and Hans held my dress up to himself (the resemblance between him and Helga is amaaaaaazing) and whistfully asked, "Do you think Helga would look good in this?"
"Maybe something with a bit more coverage," I offered. After all she's so innocent!!
So cool!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Peter! I think in those photos the color is so much more daffodil than mustard! It looks fantastic. I too love the photo with Cathy next to the blue wall. Tell her another fabulous shoot — not that we would expect anything less, especially with her heritage :) This ensemble should proudly go into the "archives" as a classic.
ReplyDeleteMost excellent! Both the story and the dress. :)
ReplyDeleteLove that vintage look, and the yellow is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWonderbar! Great job on that dress!
ReplyDeleteDidn't Paramount ban Beatrice Lane from the lot after just one day, to quell the insecuries of its stars?
ReplyDeleteHer career then became a patch work of uncredited parts at Columbia and MGM, with some credited work at Warner Brothers and Monogram. PRC is where she shined, but those moldy prints are hard to come by.
Rumor has it she kept the "missing earing" in her purse until her untimely passing. Perhaps you or Cathy can verify this?
Sadly, the lore and legend of Beatrice Lane is sketchy at best, and forgotten by most. Thank you for shining a Kleig light on her overlooked achievements.

Oh, Testy, it's so good to know SOMEBODY remembers the old bag!
